The Hungarian-born violinist, Kristóf Baráti, spent a large part of his childhood in Venezuela. He began his violin studies at the age of 5 and already from the age of 8 he made his first solo performances with the leading Venezuelan orchestras. At the age of 11 he was invited to do a recital in Montpellier in the frame of the prestigious "Festival de Radio France". His studies continued in Budapest with Miklós Szenthelyi and Vilmos Tátrai in the Franz Liszt Academy of Music. During his studies hr participated at the Festival de Radio France in Montpellier (1990); was the “Best Performer” of the Elba Festival; won 1st Prize at the Rodolfo Lipizer Competition in Gorizia, Italy (1995), and 2nd Prize at the Margaret Long and Jacques Thibaud Competition in Paris. In 1997 his career took a new turn after getting 3rd prize and the audience prize at the highly prestigious Queen Elisabeth competition in Brussels, being the youngest finalist. Take one acclaimed violinist and one of the talented piano professors at the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music (MSM), and the musical possibilities are limitless.
Audiences will discover this firsthand during MSM’s A.I. Lack Master Series. Each year, this series delivers concerts and master classes from the world’s top musicians. As part of the series’ 2014 events, noted violinist Kristóf Baráti will team with UH’s Timothy Hester, associate professor of piano, for a recital. He also will conduct a master class. Both events are free to the public. Performance times, dates and details are as follows:
- Master Class– 2 p.m., Oct. 31 in Moores School of Music, Room 108.
- Recital – 7:30 p.m., Nov. 1 in Dudley Recital Hall (first floor of UH Fine Arts Building, Entrance 16 off Cullen Boulevard). Works performed include pieces by Brahms, Paganini, Saint-Saëns and Sarasate.

Kristóf Baráti (born 1979) is a Hungarian classical violinist.
Early life
Baráti was born into a musical family in Budapest in 1979. His mother played the violin and his father was a cellist. He received his first violin instruction from his mother and continued his studies with Vilmos Tátrai, the founder of the famous Tátrai Quartet.
Throughout much of his childhood, Baráti lived in Venezuela, where he began performing with leading orchestras from the age of eight. When he was eleven, he performed a recital at the Festival de Radio France in Montpellier, France.
Baráti later returned to Hungary to study at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, and, in 1996, he began studying in Paris with Professor Eduard Wulfson. Wulfson, who had been a student of Yehudi Menuhin, Nathan Milstein, and Henryk Szeryng, passed on to Baráti the standards which his own teachers had embodied.
