Dr. Steve Croft is a radio astronomer working on the Breakthrough Listen [ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJaQi8XYzRU ] technosignature search project with UC Berkeley SETI Research Center (BSRC), where he leads Listen's observational program on the 100-meter Green Bank Telescope [ https://youtu.be/sobaAqgQWLY ]- the world's largest steerable telescope. In addition to being a key member of the Listen science team, he is the Director of Undergraduate Research at BSRC [ https://seti.berkeley.edu/Internship.html ], and also manages BSRC's outreach, communication, and education efforts.
At the SETI Institute Steve is involved in SETI research with the Allen Telescope Array, in particular making the array accessible to outside experts as part of the open-source GNU Radio project. Steve was a member of the ATA science commissioning team from 2007 - 2011 and is excited to see the new capabilities being developed for the telescope. Steven John Lindsey Croft (born 29 May 1957) is a British bishop in the Church of England and a theologian specialising in mission. He has been Bishop of Oxford since the confirmation of his election on 6 July 2016.[1] He was the Bishop of Sheffield from 2008 to 2016; previously he was Archbishops' Missioner and Team Leader of Fresh Expressions, a joint Church of England and Methodist initiative. He falls within the open evangelical tradition of Anglicanism.
Early life and education
Croft was born on 29 May 1957.[2] He attended Heath Grammar School in Halifax and studied classics and theology at Worcester College, Oxford, graduating in 1980.[3] From 1980 to 1983, he trained for ordination at Cranmer Hall, Durham.[4] The University of Durham awarded him a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in 1984 for a thesis titled "The identity of the individual in the Book of Psalms".[5]

Steven became warden of his theological college in 1996 and returned to Durham to lead training for Anglican and Methodist ministry. He was later appointed Archbishops' Missioner and oversaw Fresh Expressions. In 2009, Steven was consecrated Bishop of Sheffield. He served on Archbishops' Council and chaired the Ministry Council of the Church of England. He became a member of the House of Lords in 2013 and was a member of the Select Committee on Artificial Intelligence until 2020. He was translated to the See of Oxford in 2016. A leading advocate of fossil fuel divestment within the Church, he was appointed to the Lords Select Committee for the environment and climate change. Steven has published a number of books and is a co-author of the popular study series, Pilgrim.
