Eoin Colfer (; born 14 May 1965) is an Irish author of children's books. He worked as a primary school teacher before he became a full-time writer. He is best known for being the author of the Artemis Fowl series. In September 2008, Colfer was commissioned to write the sixth installment of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, titled And Another Thing ...,[1][2] which was published in October 2009. In October 2016, in a contract with Marvel Comics, he released Iron Man: The Gauntlet. He served as Laureate na nÓg (Ireland's Children's Laureate) between 2014 and 2016.[3]

Eoin Colfer was born in Wexford, Ireland. He graduated from the University of Dublin with a bachelor’s degree in Education.[4] Soon after graduating, Colfer spent four years working in Saudi Arabia, Italy and Tunisia.[5] His travels throughout Europe, as well as his Irish heritage, serve as a basis for many of his earlier stories.[6] He attained worldwide recogniti

Eoin (pronounced "Owen") Colfer was born on May 14, 1965 in Wexford, Ireland. His father was an elementary school teacher, historian, and artist. His mother was a drama teacher. They raised him alongside his four brothers. He first became interested in writing in elementary school, when he wrote stories about Vikings. He studied to become a teacher at Dublin University, and was married in 1991. Colfer is a prolific writer who has published about one book per year throughout his long career. Many years have more than one publication. Colfer served as Laureate na nÓg (Ireland's Children's Laureate) between 2014 and 2016. To date, more than half of Colfer's books have reached the New York Times Best Seller List at least once. Colfer has received several awards for his writing, including the British Children's Book of the Year, the Irish Book Awards Children's Book of the Year, and the German Children's Book of the Year.
