McKiernan to take reins of Field Artillery School
Fort Sill, Okla.--The Army Chief of Staff announced the assignment of Brig. Gen. Brian McKiernan as commandant of the United States Army Field Artillery School at the Fires Center of Excellence, Fort Sill.
McKiernan is currently the deputy chief of staff, G3/5/7, U.S. Army Reserve Command, Office of the Chief, Army Reserve, Fort Bragg, N.C.
McKiernan will replace Brig. Gen. Thomas Vandal, who departed Fort Sill to become the Department of the Army G3, director of operations and who has been nominated to receive his second star.
McKiernan was born in Providence, R.I., is a 1986 distinguished military graduate of the Vanderbilt University ROTC program and completed the Field Artillery Officer Basic and Advanced Courses at Fort Sill.
His career took him to Augsburg, Germany where he served as fire direction officer and firing platoon leader in 1st Battalion, 36th Field Artillery and as aide-de-camp to the VII Corps Artillery commander.

David D. McKiernan (born 11 December 1950) is a retired United States Armyfour-star general who served in Afghanistan as Commander, International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).[1][2] He served concurrently as Commander, United States Forces – Afghanistan (USFOR-A) from 6 October 2008 to 15 June 2009.[3]
Prior to Afghanistan, McKiernan was Commanding General, United States Army, Europe and Seventh United States Army from 14 December 2005 to 2 May 2008.[4] Before promotion to four-star rank, he served as Commanding General, Third United States Army and Coalition Forces Land Component Command from 2002 to 2004, where he commanded all allied ground forces during the 2003 invasion of Iraq, and as Deputy Commanding General, United States Army Forces Command, the army's largest major command,[citation needed] from 2004 to 2005.

David D. McKiernan was born on 11 December 1950 in Atlanta, GA. He graduated from the College of William & Mary with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History in 1972. He was commissioned from the Reserve Officers' Training Corps and entered active duty in 1972 as a Second Lieutenant of Armor. He holds a Master of Public Administration degree from Shippensburg University and an honorary doctorate in Public Service from William & Mary.
His commands have included:
