James 'Bubba' Stewart: The motocross megastar who pushed boundaries
By Emma Franklin
Updated: 06 February 2023
A motocross force of nature, James ‘Bubba’ Stewart has left a lasting imprint on the sport, not only for his sheer dominance, being one of only two riders in history to win perfect championships, but also for his sensational all-or-nothing style, which earned him the title of ‘the Fastest Man on the Planet’, as well as pushing the limits of MX to levels previously thought unreachable.
A child sensation, Bubba (a nickname he picked up racing in the junior championships) graduated to the American professional ranks in 2002, aged just 16 and already with 11 amateur titles under his belt.
In his first pro season, he broke records by becoming both the youngest rider and the first rookie to win an AMA MX championship, as well as going down as the first African American to win an AMA crown. And it all started thanks to a little help from his old man.

James Stewart Jr
James Stewart Jr. aka Bubba Stewart, is a retired American professional motocross racer who competed in supercross riding the No. 7. Through his years of racing, he earned the nickname “The Fastest Man on The Planet”, due to his extraordinary, although sometimes daredevil-like, speed and abilities in motocross racing. Stewart has not been seen in any supercross events since 2015.
His father, James Sr., was a motocross enthusiast and introduced his son to the sport at the age of three. Stewart entered his first motocross race when he was four years old.
Having 84 amateur wins and 7 Loretta Lynn’s Amateur Championships all before the age of 16, he debuted as pro in 2002. While crashes and rookie mistakes kept him from winning the 2002 125 West Supercross title, he went on to dominate the 2002 125cc national championship and was named the 2002 AMA Rookie of the Year. He was also named one of "20 Teens Who Will Change the World" in the April 2003 issue of Teen People magazine.
Stewart went on to win the 2003 125 West Supercross Champion

1985—
Motorcycle racer
James Stewart Jr. has been called the Tiger Woods of motorcycle racing. But even Woods didn't have a boatload of sponsors and a collection of fancy sports-cars by the time he was 16. Stewart has emerged as the dominant force in motocross (outdoor, dirt-track motorbike racing, usually in a rural setting) and supercross (motocross's indoor cousin, usually found in large stadiums in metropolitan areas). By his early twenties, Stewart had already logged enough victories and series championships to place him among the sport's all-time leaders. Moreover, in the sport pursued by an overwhelming majority of white participants, Stewart has achieved far more than any other African American in history. By the time he is done racing, he may well have achieved more than anyone of any race or ethnicity.
James Stewart Jr. was born on December 21, 1985, in Bartow, Florida. His father was a professional motocross racer in Central Florida, so James Jr. was exposed to motorcycles and racing practically from birth. When he was just days old, James S
